To me, a good university is one that provides you with the best research and practical experience in your academic field. It must provide you with a healthy atmosphere with education. You don't have to stop outside the market to get the basics. Rather, your university is everything. You can get within your university.
Okan University is quite successful in all I have written above. If I want to give a score out of 100, I will give a score of 70. This is due to the university not being practical in education in -30 and overall not treating all faculty equally.
For example, almost all your teachers teach you theory. For which they take help from book and power point. Apart from this, they do not pay even the slightest attention to the practical education available in the present age. I mean my degree is Master in Business but not a single day did any teacher try to explain the business of Amazon, Microsoft or Facebook practically. If you have only taught theory and some old examples, if you teach the system of twenty years ago, how will you succeed in the present age?
Now to avoid this I resort to self-study internet. Another system in which Okan University lags behind good universities in the rest of the world is that there is a difference in all departments. I mean my business department, faculty of medicine and dentistry is a bit better.
Otherwise the students of all other faculties are very worried. A group of bachelors who were electrical engineering started telling me that our teachers change every day. Studies are not going well.
One of the things that Okan University is good at is its spacious environment close to nature. There is a lot of green nature here. There is a great atmosphere that refreshes your mood. But good! A student also needs a good education which you are not able to provide despite being the most expensive university. This is my complaint to Okan University.
I am having a good time here. Overall I like Okan University because I am also its student. I am paying special attention to my studies. Because there is flaw in old research.. need to study more in modern education. International students here are very good and better people.
I think if I give my opinion then I should respect the opinion of other students. I'm writing below the opinion of all other students. Every word is as it is, I'm not even changing their words.
Not so sure of that, I will tell you my experience in Okan, it is private school, I am a student in nutrition and dietetics department (100% English), I had some good lecturers but I honestly did not feel that they full filled my passion, they do not put enough effort teaching you, they latterly only read the slides like if we are learning how to read, Their English language is horrible and makes communication really hard, you have to depend on yourself most of the time to get any information, they do not know how to guide you as a student, my advisor just told us (After finishing our internship) the conditions of the internship (we had to do 10 cases of pediatrics), the biggest surprise is that our advisor told us to make these cases up if we did not get enough pediatric cases.
They are not just at all, they always put international students on the last of their priorities. To be more clear, they do meetings with Turkish student and give them all the details about all the important things and keep foreigner student to the last, although it is not written in my acceptance letter nor in the website of the university but even if you get 4/4 you cannot have a scholarship which was a shock for me, there is a clear discrimination practiced by the school aiming to get money as possible. They did not give me any good impression, sometimes I regret studying in this university since I don’t feel that they are honest or professional, I am very disappointed because they make me regret my efforts (If you write a thesis in my department the doctor/lecturer is going to give all the students the same grade=100).
Imagine having a great passion and then being surprised with this, by the way the ranking of the university is being lower every year which is also disappointing. Most universities give more benefits to students that this one. But there is a nice atmosphere and in the end it is all about your efforts, all students will take the certificate but not all students will have the same amount of knowledge. I would not recommend studying master or PhD in Okan tbh.

First of all, it is a private university, so you pay something to study in Okan University. Secondly, it cannot be considered as one of the best universities in Istanbul. However, Istanbul is a complex and colorful city, where people can learn a lot about marketing, sales, international trade etc. just by living there. If Turkey is your only option to study, Istanbul is the best place for an international student. Okan University is definitely not the best choice but I can say it might worth it.Eylem Torun
